Composer information for 'Handel, Georg Friedrich'
Name: | Handel |
First name: | Georg Friedrich |
Dates: | (1685 - 1759) |
Misc. info: | H.'s Ob parts written for Rome are usually written a tone too high. His oboists there were playing high insts (about A-450; his Ob soloist was Ignazio Rion [fl.1704-22], who had just come from Venice), whereas most of the orchestra was tuned a tone lower. The Ob parts (which seem too high if played in the same key as the rest) should consequently be played (as originally written) a tone lower to compensate for the pitch difference (cf. Quantz 1752, Ch.XVII/vii/7 on Roman pitch). All other works than those composed in Italy are notated, however, as played. |
